"Bleakness, through the trees and bushes,
comes without sound."

—Joan Mitchell, "Autumn" (December 1935)

In lieu of inaugurating our collaboration with a show of drawings, Victor and I began with the Chopin paintings. This series is modestly scaled and we presented it in a perfect Los Angeles apartment - aptly referred to as "the castle.”

New York today.

A message from Victor read: Start with drawings, and that is for so many reasons. Chiefly, that feeling of naked helplessness.

It is at this point, however, that Victor has decided to strip the gallery walls of the Liverpool paintings in a gesture that he refers to as a "sorrow monger." These paintings perform a sad impotence, as they face away from the viewer in what can only be appraised as shame.

This is what lies ahead: paintings dethroned, covered in felt, cast to the side. Over one hundred drawings in plastic casings will hang in their place for the final weeks.
